Oscar Joyce

I’m Oscar, but most people call me OJ.

I am a “professional doodler” and racing driver looking to take the next step in my motorsport career.

My story began in October 2018 when I went for my first test with Premium Karting and caught the racing bug at Bayford Meadows.

I got my novice licence and went in at the deep end, racing in the Little Green Man Series and British Kart Championships alongside European races.

Every year we have progressed and achieved some good results, and I stepped up to challenge for wins in cars in the 2023 Hagerty Radical Cup UK.

I’m sure a few of you have looked at the introduction and asked what a “doodler” is. Well, this leads me to my primary sponsor Apex Doodles:

  • Apex Doodles was the first project to merge real-world motorsport and NFT art, allowing a driver like myself to progress up the ladder using a brand new self-funding model.
  • However, in 2024, Apex Doodles collaborated with graffiti artists Solo One, OG Mear and D_a_n_e_ism, who live-artworked my DW Racing-prepared Radical SR3 XXR in a bid to create the most photographed car in UK motorsport.
  • The graffiti artists also created a unique selection of Arai race helmets, to be displayed and raffled at the DW Racing awning in each of the race paddocks and online throughout the season, to raise money for local charities associated with the painters. These include Stockwell Hall of Fame and Dwaynamics ABC.

Visit me at one of the race weekends or contact me or DW Racing if you want to know more!

  • If you could race any car what would it be?
    Brawn GP 001 title-winning F1 car
  • Why?
For a car to come onto the grid for one year only in F1 and win everything sounds like a fairytale, so it must be mega to drive!
  • If you could race any track, what would it be?
Silverstone GP Circuit (it's a good thing it's on the calendar.
  • If you could meet any racing driver, alive or dead who would it be?
Phew! Tough one! Definitely a few that could go here, but to keep it short, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen.
  • Why?
They are all people who have had a lot of experience in motor racing and have held careers and achieved at the highest level. Furthermore, they are legends of my childhood!
  • Not exclusively to cars or track - what is your earliest racing memory
My first ever memory of racing was when my dad took me to the 2012 British Grand Prix at the age of eight, seeing Sergio Perez flying down the National Pit Straight in the pouring rain. After that, I turned to my dad and said one day I want to do that!
  • What is your racing goal
To get to the position where I am either paid or self-funding myself to drive, and holding down a career in motorsport.
  • What was the first car/kart you raced?
Corporate kart at Daytona Sandown Park.
  • Why did you choose your current race series?
It is a great stepping stone into the world of motorsport, as the Radical SR1 teaches you so much about car control. Also, the affordability of the series for what you get compared to others.
  • What's the first thing you do when you get to the track.
See the team and ask how everyone is, Go through my notes to jog my memory and make sure that I'm picking up where I last left off.
  • Do you have a pre-race/quali ritual? If so, what is it?
Well, in karting my only sort of ritual was to always enter the kart from the right-hand side. However, I don't really believe in fate and I'm not superstitious, so a bit of a DNF for the question.
  • Whose your biggest supporter?
100% my family and my girlfriend
  • Any advice for someone looking to get into racing?
My main advice would be never give up, set yourself goals and keep working towards them. Once you reach them, you can't stop. You can always improve.
  • Why did you choose to race with DW Racing
DW Racing was the perfect choice for us, as the team offers a friendly environment that allows drivers to relax and unleash their full potential. Along with this, Darren Winter's experience and knowledge of how to unlock a driver's potential was an easy choice, due to development programmes and plans for the future.
